HISTORY
The Korean Artists Association of Hawaii
was established in 1986 through the efforts of
Chang-jin Lee, Hwa-ja Park, Kwang Kyu Yi, Jinja Kim, Kwan Jay Cho
they remain in the association as
senior advisors to the board and the association.
Recognized in Korea and the United States, Chang-Jin Lee, a photographer,
had been actively engaged in solo exhibitions across
New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Korea.
He shared the enthusiasm to establish an
art association for Korean descendants living
in Hawaii with Hwa-Ja Park, a fine artist.
From this point forward, the two artists worked devotedly to establish
the Korean Artists Association of Hawaii,
actively recruiting qualified members among visual artists.
Soon other artists from the field of painting,
photography and 3D arts joined the association,
leading to the first inaugural group exhibition in early October 1986.
This was how the Korean Artists Association of Hawaii took its first steps. Being active for 36 years,
The Korean Artists Association of Hawaii has established itself as
a proud Korean artists group among the many
Korean communities in Hawaii and the United States.
